Since 1996, Scotiabank Place has served as the home of the NHL's Ottawa Senators. Formerly known as the Corel Centre, this arena gives the people of Ottawa something to be proud of when they go to see their local team play in the most competitive hockey league in the world. The city of Ottawa is definitely a place that you want to explore if you have the time to do so, as its beauty and tranquility are characteristics that can be found in few cities stateside.

In order to take in a Senators game, however, you first need to know how to get to the arena. Highway 417 pipes you right into Scotiabank Place. Whether you are coming in from downtown Ottawa or another part of the region, Highway 417 is the only option that you have when trying to find your way to the building. There are many signs on the highway itself that you will lead you right to Scotiabank Place, so you don't have to worry about blindly finding your way around the area. If you were planning on public transportation to get you to the arena, OC Transpo is going to provide you with a quick and easy way to get to the Senators game. With many routes that run throughout the city, OC Transpo makes the entire process very simple. There are also taxi services available that will take you from downtown to the Scotiabank Place and back, which gives you just one more option when looking at possible means of transportation to the building.

Upon entering the fairly large atrium at Scotiabank Place, you will notice that the 100 level is actually at the ground floor, while the main concourse is at the 200 and 300 levels of the arena. This makes it very convenient for everyone, regardless of where they are sitting, to get their food and souvenirs. The arena bowl itself allows you to take in the Canadian hockey culture that has become so famous in the NHL. You will find fellow fans that are very knowledgeable about the game of hockey while also being extremely passionate about their hometown Senators.

The traditional concession stands with accompanying stadium food are aplenty throughout the arena, but the real treat at Scotiabank Place is the sheer amount of restaurants that are located within the building's parameters. While you do need to be a club member to dine at a couple of these establishments, there are more than enough options available for the normal ticket holder as well. Opening at 4 P.M. on gamedays, Bert's Sports Bar is the perfect place to get a bite to eat before the game commences. With outstanding drink specials and fairly priced menu items, Bert's makes it simple and affordable to eat your pregame meal. You would also be doing yourself a favor by visiting The Ledge, which is a carvery and bar combination. This restaurant allows you to eat your meal at press box level while actually watching the game from arena seating that has been specially reserved for patrons.

The city of Ottawa is known for the wide selection of restaurants that they have along with the variety of the food that is offered. Johnny Farina Restaurant & Lounge is one of those special eateries that you don't want to miss. Serving traditional Italian food along with wines that are imported from around the world, Johnny Farina's gives customers an outstanding experience while offering them a hearty meal at the same time. No trip to Ottawa to watch the Senators would be complete without stopping by Restaurant Eighteen. You will undoubtedly be attracted to the laid-back atmosphere that the restaurant offers. You will also find some of the best regional dishes at Restaurant Eighteen, as they are known for serving many different meals to satisfy their customer.

If you are going to watch an Ottawa Senators game in person, you will definitely have a lot of extra energy to burn off after the game is over. This would be a great time to explore some of the nightlife offerings that the city of Ottawa can offer. A great place to meet and socialize with locals while listening to live DJs spinning tunes throughout the entire night is Babylon Nightclub. Located on Bank St. in the heart of Ottawa, there are few places in the region that offer more of an upbeat experience than Babylon. If you are looking for more of a low-key atmosphere, try Mercury Lounge, which offers more of a jazz and funk experience that would be a distinct change from the roaring of 20,000 people inside Scotiabank Place.

Don't forget that Ottawa is filled with awe-inspiring points of interest as well. The Parliament Buildings on Wellington Street is a great place to start your journey throughout the Ottawa city limits. Housing the House of Commons, the Senate, and the Library of Parliament, the Parliament Buildings are the center of Canadian government. You'll also want to see what Byward Market has to offer in terms of restaurants, shopping, and museums. Within a four-block radius, Byward Market gives you many different local attractions to indulge yourself in while admiring the beauty of the city.

The nation's capital of Ottawa is certainly one of the prized locations that Canada has to offer. It also serves as the home for one of the NHL's most successful franchises, the Ottawa Senators. Make sure that Scotiabank Place is on your list of National Hockey League arenas to see, as the arena, as well as the entire city, presents an experience that you are likely to not soon forget.
